Gusto Camp Campsites and Resorts
Our interest: we earn a commission if you book through the link on this page. It costs you nothing. The cancellation scale, the fees and the liability wording below are quoted from Gustocamp’s own booking conditions, including where they count against the sale.
Gustocamp does one thing and does it properly: it puts its own luxury mobile homes and safari tents on established Italian campsites and rents them to you fully equipped, with air conditioning and a shaded wooden terrace as standard. It has been at it “for over 25 years”, and the sites it uses — Union Lido, Marina di Venezia, Pra’ delle Torri, Park Albatros — are among the better-known camping villages in Europe.
The deposit is modest, at 20% of the rental, or 10% on an early booking, with the balance due six weeks before you arrive.
Two things to understand before you book, and we go into both below. Gustocamp sells you the accommodation, not the journey — there is no ATOL and no package protection, and it says in writing that it is not liable for flights, ferries, car hire or coach travel you arrange. And the cancellation scale is severe: 100% of the total travel sum from 28 days before arrival.

What you pay, and when
The payment structure is clear, which is to its credit. All amounts as published, in euros:
| Stage | Amount |
|---|---|
| Deposit, regular booking | 20% of the rental, plus the reservation fee and any cancellation insurance, within two weeks of the invoice |
| Deposit, early booking | 10% of the total |
| Reservation fee | €29.00 |
| Balance | No later than six weeks before the confirmed arrival date |
| Security deposit on arrival | €100.00 for mobile homes and Premium safari tents, €50.00 for Gusto safari tents, reserved by SEPA form |
| Change of dates, accommodation or campsite | €25.00 per reservation, plus any extra cost arising |
| Transfer of a reservation to someone else | €25.00 |
A 10% early-booking deposit is genuinely low for this kind of holiday, and holding a pitch at a top Adriatic site for a tenth of the price nine months out is a reasonable deal. Note that the published discounts are percentages rather than prices — we saw up to 40% off selected September accommodation and up to 30% early-booking discount for 2027 — and no actual prices are published on the pages we read, so you have to run a search to find out what a week costs.
One practical point for a UK buyer on a .co.uk website: the fees are set in euros. The €29 reservation fee, the €25 amendment fee and the €100 security hold will each cost you whatever your card’s rate and non-sterling fee make them on the day. Use a card that does not charge for euro transactions.
The cancellation scale, which is the hardest thing here
Quoted exactly from the booking conditions, with the €29.00 reservation fee payable on top:
| When you cancel | You pay |
|---|---|
| Up to 42 days before arrival | 20% of the total travel sum |
| From 42 days to 28 days before | 60% of the total travel sum |
| From 28 days to the day before | 100% of the total travel sum |
| On the day, or a no-show | 100% of the total travel sum |
Read the middle row again, because it is the one that catches families. At six weeks out you already owe 60% — and six weeks out is also when the balance falls due, so the money is leaving your account at exactly the point the penalty jumps. At four weeks out you owe the lot.
For a July or August family holiday booked in January, that means your commitment becomes effectively total in June, before the school term has even ended and well before anyone knows whether a child will be ill or a job will change.
Gustocamp does sell cancellation insurance, and on this scale it is worth pricing rather than skipping. But read what it is: the conditions state that Gustocamp “offers only cancellation insurance, not travel insurance”. Those are different products, and you need the second one as well.
Note also that the conditions describe only one route for a change: €25 plus any price difference. Moving a date is cheaper than cancelling and rebooking, so if your plans wobble, ask about a change before you ask about a refund.
No ATOL, no package: what that means for your journey
This is the most important structural fact on the page, and it is not a criticism so much as a description of what you are buying.
Gustocamp rents you accommodation. It holds no ATOL and claims none, and it says plainly that it “cannot be held liable for any services booked by you (e.g. flight tickets, car rental, boat crossing, coach travel, etc.)”. Those are not part of its contract with you.
So the chain of risk runs like this. You book the mobile home with Gustocamp and the ferry or the flight with somebody else. If the crossing is cancelled, the airline fails or the strike is at the port, your accommodation booking stands and the cancellation scale above still applies. There is no package organiser to hold responsible for the whole trip, because there is no package.
That is normal for accommodation-only bookings and it is a legitimate way to sell holidays — it is also precisely why a flight-inclusive holiday with an ATOL number costs more. What it means in practice:
- Buy travel insurance that covers travel disruption, not just medical cover, and buy it when you book rather than before you travel.
- Book the crossing or the flight on a credit card, so you have a separate route if that supplier fails.
- Do not book non-refundable travel for dates you could still lose to the 100% accommodation window, or you can end up paying twice.
Gustocamp is explicit that you need your own cover: “It is therefore very important that you have valid third-party liability insurance and travel insurance.” Take that at face value.
Who you are contracting with, and the gaps in the paperwork
The company is Dutch. The footer gives Gustocamp, Saturnusstraat 60, 2516 AH The Hague, the Netherlands, and the booking conditions state that “a contract between you and Gustocamp is formed” once you accept the travel conditions or complete a reservation.
Three things we looked for and did not find, each of which would normally be published:
- No legal entity name. “Gustocamp” is a trading name; no limited company, BV or other registered entity is named on the pages we read.
- No company registration number. There is no Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number and no UK company number anywhere we could see.
- No governing law. The booking conditions do not say which country’s law applies to the contract — and with a Dutch seller, a UK customer and an Italian campsite, that is three candidates and no answer.
There is also no named dispute resolution scheme, no ABTA membership and no Dutch equivalent cited, and complaints have a hard deadline: they must be in writing “within one month after the end of the rental period”, and later complaints “will not be accepted”. If something goes wrong, write it up as soon as you are home, with photographs.
On liability the wording is broad: “Gustocamp is not liable for (including but not limited to) death, personal injury illness, loss, theft”, while you are liable for damage to the accommodation caused by you or your party — which is what the €100 SEPA hold is for.
The one thing that is better than we expected: there is a UK telephone number, +44 (0)1706 438006, and a uk email address. For a foreign operator selling into Britain, a real UK landline rather than a form is worth something.
Where you would actually be staying
The destinations are narrow and that is a strength, not a weakness — this is a specialist, not a catalogue.
Italy, Adriatic coast: Union Lido Mare, Marina di Venezia, Pra’ delle Torri, Garden Paradiso, Spiaggia e Mare, Tahiti, Sant’ Angelo and Eraclea Mare. Lake Garda: Bella Italia, Cisano San Vito and Villaggio Eden. Tuscany: Park Albatros, Norcenni Girasole and Montescudaio. Austria: Bella Austria in Styria.
Those are serious camping villages with pools, pitches on the sand and their own restaurants, and for a family who wants a resort without a hotel price they are a sound choice. The accommodation is Gustocamp’s own: three safari tent types and four mobile home types, including two- and three-bedroom homes and a “Gusto Baby”, with air conditioning and a terrace standard and free WiFi at some sites. Four arrival days a week are possible, which is more flexible than the Saturday-to-Saturday rule much of this market still runs on.
A small inconsistency to flag, since we counted: the UK site advertises 15 campsites while the pages name 12 in Italy and one in Austria. The partner listings we read give a slightly different set again. Check that the specific site you want is bookable rather than trusting the headline count.
And a word on what “we take care of your holiday from A to Z” means here: it covers the accommodation end to end — the unit, the equipment, the pitch, the campsite booking. It does not cover getting there. Read that claim in the light of the liability clause above rather than as a promise about your journey.
Where it wins
- Over 25 years renting its own accommodation rather than reselling someone else's
- A 10% deposit on an early booking holds a peak-season pitch cheaply
- Up to 30% early-booking discount for 2027 and up to 40% off selected September stays
- Mobile homes come with air conditioning and a shaded wooden terrace as standard
- Four possible arrival days a week instead of a single fixed changeover day
- Established camping villages: Union Lido, Marina di Venezia, Pra' delle Torri, Park Albatros
- Seven accommodation types, from a Gusto Baby to a three-bedroom mobile home
- A real UK telephone number, +44 (0)1706 438006, not just a web form
- Cancellation insurance is offered at the point of booking
- Changing the dates costs €25 rather than forcing a cancellation
- The payment stages and the cancellation scale are published in full before you book
Where it falls short
- 100% of the holiday cost is charged from 28 days before arrival
- 60% is already due from 42 days out, the same point the balance falls due
- No ATOL and no package protection, because no travel is sold
- It states it is not liable for flights, car hire, boat crossings or coach travel you book
- No legal entity is named and no company or Chamber of Commerce number is published
- The booking conditions do not say which country's law governs the contract
- No dispute resolution scheme, ombudsman or trade body is named
- Complaints are refused if not made in writing within one month of the rental ending
- The liability clause excludes “death, personal injury illness, loss, theft”
- It sells cancellation insurance but explicitly not travel insurance
- Fees are set in euros on a .co.uk site, so UK cards face conversion costs
- No prices are published on the pages we read — only percentage discounts
- The site advertises 15 campsites but names 13
- A €100 security deposit is reserved against your account by SEPA form on arrival
Common questions
Is a Gustocamp holiday ATOL protected?
No, and none is claimed. Gustocamp rents accommodation rather than selling travel, so no ATOL applies and there is no package protection. Its own conditions say it “cannot be held liable for any services booked by you (e.g. flight tickets, car rental, boat crossing, coach travel, etc.)”. Book your travel separately, on a credit card, and take travel insurance that covers disruption.
What happens if I cancel?
It depends how close you are, and it gets expensive quickly. Up to 42 days before arrival you pay 20% of the total travel sum; from 42 to 28 days it is 60%; from 28 days to the day before, and on the day or for a no-show, it is 100%. The €29.00 reservation fee is payable on top. Gustocamp sells cancellation insurance, which on this scale is worth pricing.
How much do I pay up front?
20% of the rental for a regular booking, or 10% on an early booking, plus the €29.00 reservation fee and any cancellation insurance, due within two weeks of the invoice. The balance must be paid no later than six weeks before arrival. On arrival a security deposit is reserved by SEPA form — €100.00 for mobile homes and Premium safari tents, €50.00 for Gusto safari tents.
Can I change my dates instead of cancelling?
Yes, and it is far cheaper. Changing the travel period, the accommodation type or the campsite costs €25.00 per reservation plus any additional cost arising from the change, and transferring the booking to someone else is also €25.00. If your plans look shaky, ask about a change before you ask about a refund.
Where does Gustocamp operate?
Italy and Austria only. On the Adriatic coast it uses Union Lido Mare, Marina di Venezia, Pra’ delle Torri, Garden Paradiso, Spiaggia e Mare, Tahiti, Sant’ Angelo and Eraclea Mare; on Lake Garda, Bella Italia, Cisano San Vito and Villaggio Eden; in Tuscany, Park Albatros, Norcenni Girasole and Montescudaio; and in Austria, Bella Austria in Styria. The site advertises 15 campsites while naming thirteen, so check your chosen site is bookable.
Who exactly am I contracting with?
“Gustocamp”, at Saturnusstraat 60, 2516 AH The Hague in the Netherlands. No limited company or BV is named and no registration number is published on the pages we read, and the booking conditions do not state which country’s law governs the contract. There is a UK phone number on +44 (0)1706 438006. Complaints must be in writing within one month of the end of your stay or they “will not be accepted”.
Our verdict
Gustocamp is a proper specialist: its own well-equipped mobile homes and safari tents, on a short list of genuinely good Italian camping villages, with a 10% early-booking deposit and four arrival days a week. If you are driving to the Adriatic or Lake Garda with children and you want a resort without a hotel bill, it does exactly what it says. Go in clear on two things. You are buying a pitch and a unit, not a holiday: there is no ATOL, no package, and the conditions state Gustocamp is not liable for the ferry, the flight or the hire car, so insure the journey yourself and avoid non-refundable travel. And the cancellation ladder is unforgiving — 60% at six weeks and 100% at four, with the balance falling due at the same moment the penalty jumps. Price its cancellation insurance properly rather than waving it away, buy separate travel insurance on top, pay with a card that does not charge for euros, and write any complaint up within a month of getting home, because after that it will not be accepted.
