Many energy suppliers offer discounts and deals for taking both their gas and electricity supply, these are usually referred to as dual fuel deals. There is a huge amount of deals available offered at all different unit prices, standing charges and contract lengths. Also discounts available for paying by direct debit. This leads to complicated pricing and can be a real headache for consumers looking to change tariffs or check their existing ones.
The government, ofgem, and the department of energy and climate change are now looking to implement a more simple system that will make it easier for consumers to chose between energy supplier and tariffs. There is talk that suppliers will be limited to selling four core tariffs per fuel.
